6 Summer Wedding Myths Debunked

Ah! Summer! What a wonderful time to get married. The summer months are a very popular time to get married. There's so many color schemes that you can choose from and you have the option of getting married outdoors if you want! But those very same reasons, are why there are certain expectations for a summer wedding. I'm here to tell you to go out on a limb and go against the grain if you want to! You don't have to follow the norm. Here are the most common expectations/myths of getting married in the summer: 1. You have to get married outside. Yes, getting married outside is beautiful and so many couples opt in for the ceremony, reception or both outdoors but it definitely has its downfalls too. For starters, if it is too hot or muggy outside, you’ll end up with extremely cranky guests. They will be hot and sweaty and so ready to go home. No one wants a hot, sweaty, cranky guest. If you aren’t in love with the idea of having the wedding outside, but worried about the décor, then have no fear, you can can make the inside of the venue, look like the outside. Yes! It is absolutely possible to have an indoor wedding with plenty of flowers and eye catching colors. It’s all about planning every little detail. If you aren’t the creative type, then this would be the best time to hire a planner. Not only will they help you come up with a beautiful vision, but they will be able to execute that vision and bring it to life! 2. You need to use bright colors. Of course when you think of summer you think of colors like pink, coral, yellow, teal but you don’t have to go with the bright colors if that’s not your cup of tea. Go with a black tie affair and create memories with a Great Gatsby theme, or a black and white wedding. Don’t settle with these colors just because you feel like it is expected. Most guests will be expecting colors like these, so why not shock them with a navy blue or burgundy color scheme? 3. The Summer heat will ruin everything Plan! Plan! Plan! It really is that simple. The summer heat doesn’t have to ruin anything. If you are having your reception outdoors, have your wedding cake done with fondant. The fondant will hold up better in the heat but if you have your heart set on buttercream frosting, then keep the cake refrigerated until the very last minute. If you’re worried about the flowers in heat, go for flowers that will handle the unforgiving weather a little better. If that is not an option for you, then create centerpieces with flowers submerged in water. This will allow the flowers to sustain heat for a little bit longer. You can also use fake flowers, or no flowers at all. 4. You need flowers and greenery. Stick to whatever your vision is and if that doesn’t include flowers, then you don’t have to use flowers. This is great especially if you’re having your wedding outdoors. Your venue will most likely already have enough flowers and greenery to begin with. Less is more in this case, no need to add flowers on top of flowers. 5. You can’t have a formal wedding. This is a common misconception. If you’re having your wedding at the beach or outdoors, you can absolutely wear your big princess dress if you want to. Just go in to the day expecting that it may be a little warm. Stay hydrated and everything will be ok. For your bridesmaids, there are plenty of elegant, formal dresses that are made of lighter material. Take your time shopping around for the best option and the desired look. And of course, you can always opt out of the outdoor wedding and have it inside. 6. You need to marry by the water…. …No…. you don’t. You just don’t. You can marry whoever you want, wherever you want. It’s all about what you like and have envisioned for your big day. Planning a wedding is not always a breeze and knowing what to do can become overwhelming very quickly. The best way to think about what you want is by thinking about what you know you don't want. Go with what you like. Most of the times, couples choose their wedding month based on the vision they already have for their day. If you are a couple that wants to get married on the beach, then you would usually pick a summer month. But if you’re a couple that wants to get married on a non summer month for whatever reason, but wants to get married on the beach, this is where a destination wedding becomes a great option. Don’t fall into a color scheme or month that you don’t want because you’re afraid of what your guests will think. Do you boo-boo! It’s your day, your way!
