New Year, New Me....

"New Year, New Me! " How many times have we said that in the past. But how often do we follow through with all these expectations that we have set for ourselves. Not very often. So instead of making goals that are attainable, but sometimes too high, let's set smaller goals for ourselves. Here are some of my tips on how to keep and become successful in your new goals for this upcoming year. Don't set yourself up for failure. Start with a small goal that you know you'll be able to achieve. Don't set yourself up for failure. It doesn't feel good, and it will more than likely bring your moral and your motivation down. If you're planning to loose weight, don't cut everything out all at once. Yes, that does work for some, but everyone is different. For me, I always jump all in. I am going to the gym every day for a week straight. Eating clean every day all day, and then after I see my first weeks results, I start loosing it. I start "Treating" myself and before I know it, I gain it all back and then some. I would suggest cutting out soda, or chips. Find a substitution for junk food that you love and go from there. Document your progress. How will you know it's working if you don't document your progress? Get yourself a notebook, a blog or even share in a social media support group. Document how you feel, what worked on this particular day, what definitely didn't and what your next plan is. Documenting will help you figure out whether something is working or not, and whether you need to change your approach. Don't beat yourself up. Beating yourself up over something you are "failing" at does not work. You loose all motivation to try anymore and it will lead you to overindulging even more. Give yourself a pep talk. Tell yourself that it is OK! you are trying your best and you will get back up, dust your shoulders off, and try it again. You have to be your biggest supporter. Because if you can't even support yourself, then no one else will support you either. Always remember that today is a new day, and if you slip up a little, you can start fresh tomorrow. Stay Optimistic. Don't focus on the negative. Always focus on the positive and what you've already achieved. Talk it through. Share what's going on with the people closest to you. If it's not something that you are comfortable doing just yet, then consider joining Facebook groups that have members that are in similar situations. Having someone that is going through it, will help your emotional and mental state. Ask for support. Close friends and family will be a big support system. It is important to set some rules and boundaries for your own sake and the sake of your relationships. Let them know what you need them to do for you and what they should never do. If you're embarking on a weight loss journey enlist the help of your partner, best friend or sibling. They will uplift you when you are feeling down, but will also let you know the truth when you need to hear it. Be HONEST with yourself. That is one of the most important tips. You can't go through a "New Year, New Me" phase without being completely honest with yourself. Should you have had 3 slices of pizza? should you have had that last cigarette? or that last drink? Should you be doing more? If your accountability buddy is telling you that you should be working harder towards you goal, then take the time to reflect on yourself and see if that is true. Yes, you will be upset, but if you take sometime and think, maybe they are right? I hope these tips help you, just as much as they helped me.
